A vote will be taken before Congress recesses on December 18—call today Please call your Senators and Representative in support of Venezuela war powers resolutions The possibility of war with Venezuela is growing. Please call your lawmakers today to demand a yes vote on three resolutions to put a brake on illegal hostilities. The House will vote on two resolutions. H.Con.Res.61 directs the President to remove armed forces from hostilities with entities that he has deemed to be terrorist organizations. H.Con.Res.64 calls for the removal of US armed forces from hostilities with Venezuela unauthorized by Congress. You can read the House Progressive Caucus statement on these resolutions here. The Senate will vote on S.J.Res. 90, which, like H.Con.Res.64, orders removal of the military from hostilities against Venezuela without Congressional authorization. Tell your Senators and Representative to defend our Constitution and demand that Congress claim its power over declarations of war. Ask that they co-sponsor the resolutions as well, if they have not done so already. Most importantly, tell them you stand with the majority of Americans who are opposed to another oil war. Since our last alert, the US seized an oil tanker, and government officials stated that more Venezuelan tankers could be taken as well. More strikes against small craft in the Pacific have been disclosed. On Friday, a commercial air pilot reported that he narrowly avoided a collision with a US military plane that was flying with its transponder turned off. The potential for military aggression and much higher civilian casualties is only increasing. Votes on these resolutions are expected before Congress begins its holiday recess on December 18. Now is the time to call. You can find contact information for your legislators here. Thank you for everything you are doing for peace and democracy, David Delk and Nancy Price, co-chairs |
